Multiple Disabilities Support (MDS)
The Multiple Disabilities Support Program program at The Widener Memorial School serves the student population by developing skills and behavior that emphasize communication, functional academics incorporated with daily living skills. Training and instruction, therefore, emphasizes functional skills in the environmental domains of school/community, domestic living, recreation/leisure, vocational, and transition (when age appropriate). Some MDS classes are using the principals of applied behavioral analysis. Students are instructed in the following areas: Functional academics, daily living skills, (i.e. feeding, dressing, personal hygiene), communication skills, social and behavioral skills, gross motor skills, sensory stimulation and community based instruction. The primary goal of the MDS program is to strengthen student independence through the development of each student’s cognitive, social, motor, and behavioral skills.
