Directions to Widener
From Center City and South:
Take the Broad Street exit from Roosevelt Boulevard (US #1. Drive north on Broad Street. Left hand turns are not permitted onto Olney Avenue. Therefore, at the 5500 block on Broad Street (Sommerville Street), you need to be in the left lane. Make a left hand turn onto Sommerville Street. Drive along the athletic field. Go to the next red light, which is Ogontz Avenue. Drive along the fenced area on your right. Central High School is on the hill to your left. Stay in the right lane. At the large intersection of Olney and Ogontz Avenues, bear right at the light (small triangular island. As you drive along Olney Avenue, there will be a long brick wall on the right side. About two-thirds of the way on that block, there is a break in the wall and a driveway. Make a right hand turn into this entrance. Girls’ High School will be on your left as you enter the driveway. Drive straight back and you will see a horseshoe shaped driveway, under a blue canopy area. The front door is located directly at the center of the canopy.
From Northeast:
Take Roosevelt Boulevard (Route 1) south. Make a right hand turn taking the exit at Broad Street. Follow directions above.
From Northwest:
Route 309 South becomes Ogontz Avenue. Ogontz is the main street coming south into the city and proceeds at an angle. Follow Ogontz Avenue. There are several five-point intersections along the way. Be certain to stay on Ogontz. When you cross Nedro Street, there will be an elementary school on the right hand corner, Pennell School. Get into the left lane. At the next light, Ogontz Avenue bears directly left. Take that left, stay in the left lane. At the next light, Ogontz and Olney Avenues, turn left again and move to the right lane. A long brick wall will be on your right. About two-thirds of the way, there is a driveway on the right. Turn into this entrance. Girls’ High School will be on your left as you enter the driveway. Drive straight back and you will see a horseshoe shaped driveway, under a blue canopy area. The front door is located directly at the center of the canopy.
